Gazelle Twin is the stage name of Elizabeth Bernholz, a British composer, producer and musician from Brighton, England. Elizabeth will be presenting a lecture on the making of her forthcoming 'Pastoral,' audiovisual project which covers topics as diverse exploring fascism and horror in the English landscape past and present, the creative process from writing to recording/production, and identity as a working artist and Mother.

Her piece was a tribute to Mae Carol Jemison, an American engineer, physician and NASA astronaut. She became the first black woman to travel in space when she served as an astronaut aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

Artist & Movician, Di Mainstone creates sonic sculptures, that extend from the body and trigger sound via movement... The New York Times has featured Di Mainstone as one of the “new generation visionaries” of the international digital arts scene. A global ambassador for audio brand Sennheiser, Di Mainstone is artist in residence at Queen Mary University London where she collaborates with researchers from the Centre for Digital Music and Media Arts & Technology group, to develop new musical instruments that are inspired by the body, transforming physical movement into sound via digital technology. Di has invented the term “Movician” to describe the player of these instruments – a hybrid artist who explores and composes sound through movement.

London-based producer, DJ and instrument designer Lia Mice was recently crowned “one of the pioneers of experimental pop” by Live And Die In Music, with praise for her newest LP I Love You appearing all over including in Entertainment Weekly, MTV and Life + Times. A doctoral candidate at the MAT Centre for Digital Music, Queen Mary London, Lia is currently producing her third solo LP, a selection of kaleidoscopic experimental-dance/weird-pop cuts created on analog samplers during her Master's research into the sampler as a time machine.

Dr. Jenn Kirby is an Irish composer, performer, software developer and academic based in Swansea. Her work ranges from instrumental composition, to electroacoustic, to laptop orchestra and the performance of live electronics. Jenn's work explores elements of theatricality, humour and subversion. Jenn works as the Programme Director for Music Performance and Production at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where she teaches composition and music technology.

Jenn’s research is largely focused on the performance of electronic music. The output from which includes the foundation of the Swansea Laptop Orchestra. Another aspect of her research output is the creation of software for new music performance and the re-purposing of controllers and interfaces as musical performance instruments.

The work of Zarah Hussain is at the intersection between science and spirituality, combining contemporary digital art with a rigorous training in traditional Islamic geometry drawn by hand. Her work encompasses a range of forms, from looping infinite animations made with code, to sculpture, painting and interactive apps. Her work uses mathematics that celebrate the order and structure found in the universe to create a range of work based on infinite repeating patterns.

Her most recent project was a large scale sculpture projected with a digital animation. Numina was commissioned by the Barbican for their foyer spaces programme in 2016. Numina combined designs found in the art of Islamic world with contemporary digital arts by mapping animated geometric patterns onto a sculpture composed of tessellating pyramids arranged on a hexagonal grid.

Aphra Shemza is a London based media artist working with abstraction, interactivity and light. Seeking to express herself through radical new technologies, Shemza’s work explores the way in which we might use these tools to imagine what the role of art could be in the future.

Since graduating in 2012, Shemza has exhibited widely in and around the capital, often showing work with Lights of Soho and Kinetica Museum. Her work has been featured in a number of publications and press, most notably Tate Etc and Time Out. In 2016 she completed two public commissions: one for the Canary Wharf Group in One Canada Square, Canary Wharf and another Champagne Louis Roederer, which was exhibited in the Shangri’La Hotel, in the Shard, London until January 2017.
